The Iola Blue and Gold Soccer Club has kicked off its spring 2014 season in fine fashion.
The club features four teams, 10-and-under, 12-and-under, 14-and-under and 19-and-under.
The teams have combined to win 14 of their first 16 games since the season started March 29.
The 10-and-under squad has won three of its first four games.
On March 29, they fell, 3-1, to LaCygne I. Joseph Karr had Iola’s goal. Brett Willis had four saves in goal. Casey McKarnin followed with three saves.
On April 5, the 10-and-under team downed Chanute, 3-1. Willis had two goals, while Carter Wilson scored once. Logan Ulrich had an assist. McKarnin had four saves, followed by T.J. Taylor with three saves.

On Saturday, the squad played twice, winning both. Blue and Gold defeated Paola, 4-1, and LaCygne II, 3-0.
Logan Ulrich and Carter Wilson each scored twice in the win over Paola. Ulrich also had an assist. Will Talkington chipped in with an assist. Taylor and Casey McKarnin added four and three saves, respectively.

Talkington’s defense was key in those victories, Coach Ulrich said.
THE 12-AND-UNDER squad has burst out of the gates to the tune of a 5-0 record.
On March 29, Blue and Gold thumped Pleasanton, 5-1, and LaCygne I, 4-1.
Scoring goals were Riley Jay, Hannah Gardner, Peter Venter, Kori Babcock and Sydni Keagle. Royce Smith racked up four saves in the win over Pleasanton and seven in the win over LaCygne I.
On April 5, Iola downed Louisburg, 5-1. Riley Jay, Gardner and Keagle scored goals. Smith had six saves.
The team rolled to wins over Paola, 8-1, and Spring Hill, 9-0, on Saturday. Garner, Josie Plumlee, Babcock, Keagle and Willis had goals. Babcock also had six saves, followed by Willis with five.
