The rain stayed away for four out of the five days of last week allowing a good amount of baseball and softball to be played. Unfortunately for the Mustangs and Fillies, the rain came on Friday and for the second time this season, Iola’s series with Chanute had to be postponed.

Originally, both teams were supposed to play the first game of the series in Iola on March 14.

Cold and rain prevented that meeting from happening and led to a scheduled doubleheader on Friday with baseball in Chanute and softball in Iola.

Right around the first pitch the rain began to fall in Iola keeping the softball Fillies and Lady Comets from ever taking the field.

Meanwhile, the Mustangs managed to get some work in before the rain hit Katy Park in Chanute.

Iola jumped up to an early 3-0 lead in the first and pushed that to 10-0 after the third inning.

Sophomore Nathan Louk got the start for the Mustangs and was scoreless in the first three innings, allowing just three hits and a walk with two strikeouts.

When the rain finally got serious, junior Brady Wiggin and senior Blake Ashmore were on second and first respectively and junior catcher Casen Barker was at the plate with no outs in the top of the fourth.

Wiggin and Ashmore each had two hits in the game. Seniors Kane Rogers and Derek Bycroft had reached first on walks twice in the first three innings.

A make-up date for the baseball and softball  games has not been set as of press time but baseball will pick up where they left off whenever they resume the game.

The Mustangs and the Fillies will resume their season on Tuesday when they host Prairie View before traveling to Independence on Thursday.
