CHANUTE — Iola AA Indians had to settle for a split of their doubleheader at Chanute Tuesday.
They used a five-run fourth to boost themselves to a 6-3 win in the opener. A 4-6-3 double play in the bottom of the seventh ended the game.
Ethan Ericson worked five innings for the win, allowing three runs on two hits, five walks and three hit batters. He struck out eight. Ryan Latta worked two scoreless innings, giving up one hit and striking out two.
Drew Walden was 3-for-3 with three singles for Iola. R. Latta had a double. Hitting a single each were Levi Ashmore, Jerrik Sigg, Clint Heffern, Devon Conner and Mason Coons.
Iola rallied to tie the second game at 3-3 with a run in the fourth and two in the sixth. The teams played on — to the 12th when a hit batter and a one-out single plated the winning run, 4-3, for Chanute.
Ericson was on the mound in the 12th and took the loss. Jarred Latta started and went four innings and Walden pitched seven innings. Chanute had six hits in the game while Iola’s pitchers issued 11 walks.
Ryan Latta doubled for Iola. Ashmore, Sigg and Walden each had a base hit.
Iola hosts Paola Thursday at Allen County Community College. First pitch is at 6 p.m.
Note: In the Register’s report of last Thursday’s 6-2 win over Fort Scott, the wrong pitcher was given the victory. It was Jarred Latta starting and getting the victory for the Iola AA Indians instead of Ericson. The Register regrets the error.
