Iola American Legion Post 15’s AA Indians keep rolling. They swept a home doubleheader Tuesday against Linn County.
Iola (14-1) peppered Linn County with hits in the first game as it built its lead. The Indians drove in two runs in the bottom of the fourth for an 11-1, run-rule win.
Corey Taylor went the distance on the mound for Iola. He gave up three hits, walked two, hit three batters and struck out four.
Jerrik Sigg led the Indian offense with three singles. Drew Walden had a single and a triple. Taylor and Dalton Smith each had two singles.
Mason Coons doubled. Hitting a single each were Levi Ashmore, Ryan Latta, Kris Collins and Jarred Latta.
Linn County scored a run in the first inning of the second game. Ashmore drew a leadoff walk in the first for Iola, stole second base and went to third on a ground-out by Smith.
Ashmore scored the equalizer when he beat the throw home on a ground-out by Sigg. From there, Iola took advantage of a few hits, walks, Linn County errors and wild pitches to score four runs in the second on its way to an 8-4 win.
Coons, Walden and Collins pitched in the second game. They gave up six hits to Linn County.
Walden and Coons each had two singles. Hitting a single each were Sigg, Austin Knoblock and Devon Conner.
