BURLINGTON — Iola American Legion A Indians scored 10 runs in a single inning and 10 runs in a game. In both contests, the Indians came out with victories Sunday against Burlington’s American Legion A team.
In the opener, Iola pushed across 10 runs in the first inning on its way to a run-rule 15-5 victory. Aaron Barclay was the winning pitcher, going 2 1/3 innings on the mound.
Barclay allowed five runs on five hits and four walks plus struck out four. Alex Bauer pitched 1 2/3 innings in relief, issuing one walk and striking out one.
Trent Latta hit two singles and a triple. Drew Faulhaber and Eric Heffern each had two singles. Bryce Misenhelter doubled. Hitting a single each were Garrett Catron, Barclay, Tyler Clubine and Isaiah Grover.
Burlington led 3-1 after three innings in the second game. Iola plated three runs in each of the next three innings to win 10-3. Clubine picked up the win on the mound, going three innings.
Clubine was charged with three runs on five hits and six walks. He struck out four. Misenhelter worked two innings and gave up two hits and one walk with three strikeouts. Thealvin Minor pitch-ed one inning and had a strikeout.
Barclay delivered three singles in the game. Heffern hit a single and a double. Faulhaber, Clubine and Trey Wilson each had a base hit.
The A Indians are 7-3. They host Humboldt Wednesday at Riverside Park.
