Finally playing at home, Iola America Legion’s A Indians made the most of it Friday evening at Riverside Park. The A Indians dealt out two losses to visiting Burlington A.
Iola defeated Burlington 5-1 in the opener. The Indians scored single runs in the first five innings. Drew Faulhaber had a solo home run in the fourth for Iola.
Caleb Vanatta pitched four innings of shutout baseball. He allowed two hits, walked two and struck out five.
Cole Morrison threw 2 2/3 innings, giving up one run on one hit and five walks. He struck out one. Grayson Pearish pitched in the seventh to get the final out.
Vanatta, Pearish and Thealvin Minor each hit a double for Iola. Derrick Weir singled.
Aaron Barclay and Faulhaber combined for a no-hitter in the second contest. Iola won 13-0 in four innings.
Barclay pitched three innings and issued two walks plus struck out five. Faulhaber had one inning of work and struck out two.
The Indians scored 11 runs in the second inning. They added two runs in the third.
Barclay was 3-for-3 with two singles and a double. Morrison hit a double.
Shea Beasley and Minor each connected for a two-run single. Weir and Eric Heffern had a base hit apiece.
The Iola A (7-2) team plays its second and final home game tonight. Eureka comes to town for a doubleheader starting at 6 o’clock at Riverside Park.
Iola A plays at Eureka June 27, at Baldwin June 30 and at Baxter Springs July 7. It plays in the Baldwin tournament July 13-15.
