PARSONS — The eighth-grade volleyball squad for Iola Middle School hit the road to face Parsons on Monday night.
The Ponies played both their A and B teams against the Vikings.
Iola’s A team won the first set of action 25-22 to begin the night on a positive note.
However, the Ponies dropped the next two sets 25-15, 15-12 and lost the game.
Haley Carlin led the Ponies with five service aces.
Raylea Wilson wasn’t too far behind with four service aces of her own.
Caleigh Porter had two kills and Allie Fager had one.
The Ponies’ B team also got off to a good start by taking the first set 26-24. And like the A team, the B team dropped the second set 25-10.
But the B team learned its lesson from the A team by winning the third and final set 15-11 to take the contest.
Kristin Lamb led the way with six service aces. Brenna Northcutt and Torre DePriest each had three service aces.
“It was another close one that was right in our grasp,” coach Terri Carlin said of the A team.
“We have to be able to ‘finish’ a match. We had some really good things happen tonight, but made too many little errors to get a win. The girls are always positive, and work well together. I really thought we were going to get a win tonight.”
