Iola Middle School’s Pony girls had a tough time on the volleyball court with visiting Anderson County Middle School of Garnett on Tuesday.
“We got off to a great start. The girls were playing together and moving very well,” said Terri Carlin, IMS eighth-grade head coach.
“Anderson County was spiking lots of balls out of bounds. When they found the court we had a hard time getting our passes.”
Anderson County beat Iola’s eighth-grade A-team 25-21, 25-15. Carlin said the Ponies had a great serving night with only two missed serves.
Taylor Sell put down two kills and had two service aces. Elise Wolf had two ace serves and two set assists.
McKayli Cleaver had two kills, one assist and one ace serve. Mikaela Platt served two aces and Joie Whitney had one ace.
The eighth-grade B-team defeated Anderson County 25-9, 25-14. Carlin said 13 girls played in the match -— six in the first set and seven in the second.
Abigail Taylor had five service aces and Klair Vogel had three ace serves. Reghan Sigg and Cloey Burris each had two ace serves.
Bobbi Sinclair had two kills and one ace. Blaze Hobbs had two kills, one ace serve and one set assist. Whitney had one ace serve and one kill.
Recording one ace serve each were Valaree Burtnett, Courtney Richey, Micaiah Larney and Cassie Delich.
In seventh-grade play, Anderson County beat Iola’s A-team 25-22, 25-11. Anderson County won the B-team match 25-11, 25-22.
“The first set was extremely intense and the girls played hard,” said Stacy Sprague, IMS seventh-grade head coach. “Taylor Stout stepped in for the team after playing well for the B-team.”
Sprague said the B-team players are learning so much and the players are improving their serving.
The Pony squads host Independence this afternoon in the IMS gym.
On Saturday, the seventh-grade hosts the IMS Net Games at Iola High School. Matches begin at 9 a.m.  with Iola playing Marmaton Valley.
