Eighth grade A

The Iola eighth grade A team got behind a dominant first half defensive effort with a total of six Mustang scorers involved to take down Prairie View, 24-18.

The Mustangs shut down Prairie View’s offense in the first quarter and tacked on nine points of their own behind Kale Pratt’s pair of layups and a free throw. Jase Herrman and Keegan Hill each banked in a layup and helped Iola take a 11-6 lead at halftime.

The teams each traded a three in the third quarter. Mustang Austin Crooks and Buffalo Reid Pugh nailed shots from outside the perimeter. The Mustangs then pulled away for 10 fourth quarter points, led by Hill’s pair of layups.

A Brody Beattie three and a Kalven Shelton pair of layups paced Prairie View in the fourth with nine points but it wasn’t enough as Iola was able to keep around a five-point lead through the final quarter and walk away with the 24-18 victory.

Pratt led Iola with eight points, while Hill had six points and Crooks netted five points.
