Iola Middle School’s eighth-grade girls basketball teams each lost to Fort Scott Thursday night, while the seventh grade teams each earned wins.
The eighth-grade A-Team fell, 29-15.
“We came out a little slow,” coach Marty Taylor said. “But, the girls did a good job of making adjustments at halftime and had a good second half.”
Piper Moore led the Ponies with six points and six rebounds. Kendra Sprague scored three points and grabbed two boards. Mia Aronson, Madisyn Holloway and Shaylee Sutterby each scored two points.
“The girls played hard, but we missed too many easy shots,” Taylor said. “The effort was there.”
The B-Team lost, 12-9. Charvelle Peterson scored four points, Ashlie Nicholas scored three points and Kassy Shelby scored two.
The seventh grade A-Team earned a double digit win, 33-18.
“The girls settled down tonight and played good basketball,” Taylor said.
Sydnie Keagle scored a team-high 13 points and also grabbed six rebounds. Kelsey Morrison did a little bit of everything, scoring six points, snagging a team-high nine rebounds and leading the Ponies with five assists. Gaby Lampe scored two points and dished out three assists. Haley Carlin scored six points, Gabby Richards scored four and Allie Fager, two.
“Sydnie was much more aggressive and had a nice ball game,” Taylor said. “Kelsey and Gaby did a good job of getting the ball in a position to score.”
For the first game of the day, the B-Team rolled to a 22-3 win. Gabby Richards led all scorers with eight points. Elysia Kunkler, Nissa Fountain and Caleigh Porter each scored four. Sadrie Overall scored two.
The teams travel to Coffeyville Monday.
