IMS 8th grade results
The Iola Middle School eighth-grade girls basketball team hosted Independence on Monday night.
The Ponies’ A team lost, 20-18 in overtime.
Elysia Kunkler recorded a team-high 10 points. She also added six rebounds.
Kelsey Morrison and Nissa Fountain each tied for the team lead in rebounds with seven. They also scored five and two points, respectively.
“A great effort by the girls, our defense was very good tonight,” coach Marty Taylor said. “Elysia really gave us a boost, we need that every night from her.”
The Ponies’ B team lost, 19-17. Gabby Richards led Iola with eight points. Kunkler had six points and Rachel Bycroft added three more.
IMS 7th grade results
The Iola Middle School seventh-grade girls basketball team hosted Independence on Monday night.
The Ponies’ A team lost, 28-15.
Jenna Miller led the team with eight points and five rebounds. Rebecca Sprague scored four points, Lauryn Holloway scored two and Kaley Schinstock scored one.
“We out-scored them in the second half but the hole we dug early was too big to get out of,” coach Marty Taylor said. “We have to come out ready to play.”
The Ponies’ B team lost, 14-5.
Sydney Shelby and McKenna O’Rear were Iola’s two leading scorers with two points each. Olivia Kerr added one point.
