CHANUTE — The Iola Middle School girls basketball team traveled to Chanute on Thursday to take on Royster Middle School.
The Ponies’ eighth-grade A team lost, 44-28.
Kelsey Morrison recorded a double-double, finishing the game with a team-high 12 points and 10 rebounds.
Gabby Richards scored eight points in the Ponies’ losing effort, and Nissa Fountain added nine rebounds.
“We have to find a way to continue to play aggressive but cut down on the fouls, but the effort is there,” coach Marty Taylor said.
Iola’s eighth-grade B team defeated Royster, 26-12.
Elysia Kunkler led the Ponies with a team-high 13 points.
Carlie Payne had four points, and Allie Utley had three points.
The seventh-grade A team lost, 59-9.
Jenna Miller was three points shy of a double-double, finishing the night with seven points and 11 rebounds.
Andi Reynolds had two points.
The seventh-grade B team lost, 21-10.
Britain Folk scored a team-high six points.
Iola’s next game is today when the school hosts its seventh-grade Pony Stampede.
