FORT SCOTT — The Iola Middle School girls basketball team competed in its first road game of the season at Fort Scott on Thursday afternoon.
The two eighth-grade squads (A and B) as well as the two seventh-grade teams (A and B) saw time on the floor.
The eighth-grade A team grabbed its first win of the season by topping Fort Scott, 25-20. Kelsey Morrison was the Ponies’ standout player by scoring a team-high 14 points and grabbing a team-high eight rebounds.
“A big improvement over Tuesday night,” coach Marty Taylor said. “These girls always work hard but tonight we handled the press and rebounded well too.”
The eighth-grade B team also came out ahead Thursday, earning a 15-10 victory. Gabby Richards’ six points was the most on the squad.
Iola’s seventh-grade A team lost 30-12 and the B team lost 4-1. Jenna Miller had six points and five rebounds in the A game. Andi Reynolds added two points and five rebounds.
