The Southeast Kansas League showdown between the 7-1 Iola High Mustangs and the 5-1 Pittsburg High Purple Dragons did not happen Tuesday. Neither did the SEK softball doubleheader between Iola High’s Fillies and the PHS girls.
Wet field conditions at Iola Riverside Park prevented the competition Tuesday. Now the teams have to wait until May 12 to meet.
Iola High’s junior varsity track athletes headed to Fort Scott Tuesday for what was to have been the Fort Scott High JV Invitational. Marmaton Valley High’s varsity was in the meet also.
What the teams found upon arrival was the Fort Scott High varsity meet, which had been rained out twice since last week, combined with the junior varsity meet. It made for a very long day at the track, which then was cut short by a thunderstorm.
All the field events were completed just before the postponement which came around 8 p.m. Running events had reached the 300-meter intermediate hurdles.
No results were available to teams as the meet closed down. The Register will have the results when made available.
