IHS JV track teams compete

ALTAMONT — Iola High’s junior varsity track teams finished fourth in the team standings at last Thursday’s Labette County High Invitational.
Chanute won the girls’ division with 132 points. Iola scored 44 points.
Breanna Stout won the gold medal in the pole vault at 6 feet, 6 inches. She combined with Abby Works, Sydney Owens and Kristen Linn to take second in the 4×800-meter relay in 13 minutes, 15 seconds.
Ty Ellis took second in the javelin with a throw of 87 feet. Ellis and Stout joined Celeste Ambrose and Chanel Coyne for a silver medal time of 59.9 seconds in the 4×100-meter relay.
Coyne was fourth in the 200-meter dash in 32.1 seconds. Jennica Rausch was sixth in the 3200-meter run in 17:18.
Ambrose placed fifth in the high jump at 4’2”. Essence Owens placed sixth in the discus at 68’6”.
The Iola boys scored 73 points, just one point out of third as Coffeyville had 74.
Chanute won the team title with 95 points.
Kyle Heffern claimed the gold medal in the discus with a toss of 109’5” with teammate Eli Grover taking fourth at 81’3”. Ralph Shafer won the javelin throw with a distance of 148’9” and Heffern was third at 120’11”.
The 4×800-meter relay team of Mikal Bossell, Eli Johns, Chris Harrington and Dylan Lower won the race in 9:57. Johns, Harrington and Lower combined with Dakota Sigg to finish third in the 4×400-meter relay with a time of 4:10.
Lower placed third in the pole vault, clearing 8’6”, while Shafer was fourth at 8’0”. Christian Kauth took fourth in the triple jump at 33’1” and Stephen McDonald was sixth in the high jump, clearing the bar at 5’4”.
Bryan Miller placed fourth in the 3200-meter run and Josh Klubek was sixth in 13:23. Harrington was fifth in the 400-meter dash in 60.7 seconds and McDonald took sixth in the 200-meter dash in 26.8 seconds.
Iola’s 4×100-meter relay team of Denton Christian, Sigg, Josh Spencer and Bossell placed fourth in 52.1 seconds.
The IHS junior varsity athletes go to Chanute Monday.
