Doug Kerr is the new Iola High football coach for 2012. Kerr was hired at Wednesday’s USD 257 Board of Education special meeting.
Kerr grew up in Derby but has been coaching in the high school ranks in Florida. He has spent the past three years on the football coaching staff at Martin County High School in Stuart, under head coach Chuck Kenyon.
Kerr was head coach at Port St. Lucie (Fla.) High School from 2005 through 2008. In his four-year tenure the Jaguars were 11-28. The 2008 team won its first district game since 2003.
Martin County High went 8-4 in 2011. Kerr was the offensive coordinator for the Tigers the past three years as they compiled a 20-12 mark and made the playoffs the last two years.
Iola High athletic director Martin Bambick said Kerr will be in Iola for a visit later this month. Kerr also was hired to fill an English teaching position at IHS.
