Humboldt takes sixth, 11th in Eureka

The Humboldt High track team met in Eureka on Tuesday and the girls took sixth place while the boys got 11th place as a team.

EUREKA — The Humboldt High track and field team competed at the Eureka Invitational on Tuesday afternoon. 

Humboldt took sixth place as a team on the girls side and 11th as a team for the boys among a field of 10 schools. Eureka, Neodesha and Madison were the top three on the girls side while Neodesha, Sedan and Eureka were top for boys.  

In the girls high jump, Laney Hull earned second place with a jump of 4’ 10” while Ella Lassman brought up the rear of the high jumpers. 

In the boys long jump, Caleb Gunderman secured 14th place with a leap of 13’ 4”. 

In the boys triple jump, Byron Westbrook took fourth place at 32’ 10”. 

In the girls discus, Kinley Tucker snatched third place with a throw of 105’ while Kenisyn Hottenstein got fifth place with a throw of 93’ 4”. River Johnson came in 21st place with a throw of 42’ 8.50”. 

In the boys discus, Taner King placed 11th with a throw of 91’ 5”. Teammate Sam Jennings came in 15th place with a throw of 75’ 2”. Matthew McCullough placed 22nd with a throw of 62’ 5”.

In the girls javelin, K. Hottenstein placed third with a throw of 104’ 5”. Assya Goforth took 11th place with a throw of 76’ 6”. River Johnson earned 15th place with a throw of 59’ 1”. 

On the boys side of the javelin, McCullough took 19th place with a throw of 60’ 9” and Sam Jennings took 20th place with a throw of 57 feet. King was 25th place with a throw of 41’ 3”.

In the girls shot put, Hottenstein took seventh place at 28’ 8” while Kinley Tucker took 10th place with a throw of 27’ 7”. Johnson placed 17th at 13’ 8”. 

In the boys shot put, Jennings took 19th place with a throw of 27’ while McCullough took 21st place with a throw of 24’ 8”. Avion Seamster finished in 23rd place at 21’ 1.50”.

In the girls 100 meter dash, Cassidy Friend took 13th place with a time of 15.93 seconds while Abigail Hirt and Ella Lassman also ran. On the boys side, Gunderman took 14th place in 14.09 seconds while King placed 19th with a time of 16.19 seconds.

In the boys 4×800 meter relay, Humboldt’s team placed third with a time of 12:06.91.

In the girls 200 meter dash, Friend took 11th place in 33.34 seconds while Hirt got 17th place with a run of 34.92 seconds. In the boys 200 meter dash, Gunderman took 12th in 29.64 seconds. 

In the boys 1600 meter run, Javyn Hess was fifth with a time of 6:02.51.
