NEODESHA — Humboldt High’s volleyball team continued its solid late-season run Saturday, picking up four wins in five matches at the Neodesha Invitational Tournament.
The Lady Cubs rolled to wins over host Neodesha, Baxter Springs, Parsons, Caney Valley and Fredonia, before dropping the championship match to Southeast of Cherokee.
“The girls had an extremely successful day,” head coach Stephanie Splechter said. “They played really well most of the tournament and battled hard during the few times we found ourselves behind.”
Splechter also praised Humboldt’s effort in the loss to Southeast, 25-21, 25-19.
“The Southeast match was an exciting one,” she said. “We are going to use it as a learning experience to prepare for sub-state.”
Humboldt, 21-8, wraps up the regular season Tuesday at Burlington. Fredonia is the third school in the triangular competition.
Humboldt then hits the road to Cherokee Saturday for the Class 3A Substate Tournament, which will determine which teams qualify for the state tourney the following weekend in Emporia.
AS AN ASIDE, the Register incorrectly reported in Saturday’s edition that Humboldt’s junior varsity split matches last week in Emporia to Eureka and Cherryvale. The Lady Cub JV won both matches, defeating the host Tornadoes, 25-9, 25-20, and Cherryvale, 25-5, 25-18.
We regret the error.
