BURLINGTON — The Humboldt volleyball team won the Burlington varsity volleyball meet on Saturday with Iola and Southern Coffey County also in attendance.

The Lady Cubs were able to win five straight matches to take the tournament win and improve to an impressive 18-3 mark on the season.

Humboldt’s day began with a pair of victories over Southern Coffey County, 25-22 and 25-12.

Humboldt head coach Terry Meadows then led the Lady Cubs to a three-set victory over Fredonia, 25-16, 17-25 and 25-17. The Lady Cubs dropped the second set but were able to recoup and take the third set by eight points.

The Lady Cubs then handled Burlington in two sets, 25-23 and 25-14.

The team took down Southern Coffey County for the second time in the tournament, 25-18 and 25-21.

Humboldt then faced off with Lyndon in their final match in which they came out victorious in a pair of sets, 25-17 and 25-16.

“We are getting better and moving on from a mistake and not making it two or three times in a row.  We played hard all day and did some great things,” Meadows said.

The Lady Cubs were able to outscore their opponents by a combined score of 267-201 in five matches to go undefeated at Burlington.

Skylar Hottenstein led Humboldt in serving with eight aces and a 94.1% mark from the serving line. Kenisyn Hottenstein made seven aces and went 96.6% from the line while Shelby Shaughnessy served a perfect 100% from the line.

“We played great defense all day and our serving was really good.  We are getting better at staying in games when we let a couple points slip away,” said Meadows.

Shaughnessy and Karley Wools led offensively after totaling 37 and 25 kills, respectively. Ella Lassman and K. Hottenstein also made splashes on the attack with 18 and 16 kills, respectively.

Shaughnessy also came up defensively where she made seven blocks and 54 digs. S. Hottenstein led the way in digs with 84, followed by Wools 46 digs, K. Hottenstein’s 39 digs and Natalie Wells 31 digs.

Humboldt hosted Yates Center and Erie on Monday night.
