EUREKA — The undefeated season for the Humboldt High baseball team continued with the road trip Eureka. The Cubs came back with two wins, 13-0 and 17-4.

In game one, Cub ace Jake Haviland continued his dominance this season by throwing five innings and allowing just two hits and one walk against Eureka’s lineup.

Haviland also recorded seven strikeouts.

“Haviland was really good on the mound,” Humboldt coach Mike Miller said. “He did a great job of commanding all of his pitches.”

The Cub offense quickly jumped on Eureka’s pitching staff with five runs in the first inning.

The bottom-half of Humboldt’s lineup produced seven hits and spearheaded offense’s production.

Tyler Korte, Daylon Splane and Dillon Aikens each had a pair of hits. Aikens also had four RBIs.

In game two, Humboldt entered the fourth inning nursing a 5-4 lead, but used six-run innings in both the fourth and fifth innings to blow the game open.

“I was really pleased with the way we were able to respond every time they threatened,” Miller said.

Korte had another big performance at the plate in the second game. He collected three extra-base hits including a triple and drove in seven runs.

Haviland followed up his dominating pitching performance in game one with a 2-for-3 game at the plate. He also scored three times.

Rayce Hoepker pitched for Humboldt in game two and threw five innings. He allowed two earned runs on six hits while recording five strikeouts.

“(Hoepker’s) usual good command wasn’t there tonight,” Miller said. “He left some pitches up and over the middle of the plate, which got him into trouble.”

Hoepker allowed two walks.

The Cubs put their undefeated record on the line Thursday when they take on Yates Center on the road.
