HUMBOLDT — So far, so good, for Humboldt High’s baseball team.

The Cubs steamrolled visiting Erie in a pair of blowouts Thursday, scoring in every inning of both games to win 20-5 and 12-2.

The victories keep Humboldt’s record spotless at 4-0.

“We had a much better night at the plate last night than we did on Tuesday,” Humboldt head coach Mike Miller said.

The Cubs rapped out eight hits in the opener and 12 in the nightcap and took advantage of 28 walks served up by Red Devil pitchers.

Meanwhile, Humboldt’s pitching staff had things well in control.

Gavin Page took the hill in the opener, and allowed four hits in 4 ⅓innings with seven strikeouts.

“Gavin was really good on the mound in the first game,” Miller said. “He got a little tired and started struggling with his control late in the game.”

Trey Sommer came in on relief and pitched 1⅔ hitless innings to finish off the victory. He struck out four.

Meanwhile, Sommer hit a double and triple, while driving in two. Page went 2-for-3 with a double. Sam Hull had a single and double. Evan Lucke added a double. Caden Vink, Garen Goodner, Aaron Coy and Hunter Bauer all had singles.

Trenton Heisler got the nod in the second game, pitching 2 ⅓ hitless innings with three strikeouts.

“Trenton was seeing his first varsity action on the mound in the second game and did a really good job of pitching with a lead,” Miller said. “We made some good plays defensively to help him out as well.” Sommer allowed two hits in  1 ⅔ innings with three strikeouts.

The Cubs scored six in the first and never looked back. Sommer went 3-for-3, while Lucke and Page each had doubles. Hull and Goodner both chipped in with singles.

The Cubs will host Leon-Bluestem Monday.
