HUMBOLDT —  As Tim VanGotten put the pressure on race leader Jay Lamons Jr., Riley Whitworth was staying in striking distance.
Strike he did. Taking the high groove of Humboldt Speedway’s dirt track, Whitworth found the shot he was looking for and took it. With six laps to go in Friday’s B-Mod feature, Whitworth was in second.
Then it was side-by-side with Lamons the final three laps. Whitworth and Lamons were together as they came down the stretch. Whitworth won by half-a-car length.
Lamons finished second with Jimmie Davis in third. Jay Bailey took fourth and Levi McGowen was fifth.
The pure stock feature went to Stetson Deets for his first win — a wire-to-wire run — of the season.  David Matlock ran second followed by Jeremy Willard, Mike Aiello and Roger Oswald for the top five.
John Rossen won his fifth factory stock feature race of the season. Derrek Wilson and Tyler James went second and third. Ed Mueller finished fourth and Colton Bunn was fifth.
With 13 different winners in the modified division for the 2010, Scott Daniels powered to the winner’s circle Friday night. Brian Bolin and Terry Beckham II ran door-to-door with Bolin claiming second place.
Jesse Folk Jr. claimed fourth place. Justin Folk was fifth.
Along with the four regular classes racing this coming Friday, fans will see the mechanics races. Gates open at 6 p.m. and races start at 8 o’clock.
