HUMBOLDT — Humboldt Speedway decided to push back its opening night of regular races.
The Speedway was to open racing Saturday. Humboldt race track owners Ron and Rhenda Whitworth decided to wait a week out of respect for the Bud Purkey Memorial Race.
The inaugural Bud Purkey Memorial race was scheduled for March 19-20. Last weekend’s winter storm moved the races to this Friday and Saturday at Mid-America Speedway in South Coffeyville, Okla.
Purkey and his family owned and operated Stateline Speedway in Coffeyville from 1991 until his health forced him to close the track in 2003.
Purkey died in 2008. He was the father of late model modified driver Al Purkey.
Humboldt Speedway will have its second play day Sunday from noon to 4 p.m.
The 2010 dirt track stock car racing season at Humboldt Speedway begins April 2. Races will start at 8 p.m.
