COLUMBUS — Humboldt High’s younger cross country runners made the most of their opportunities to shine at a meet in Columbus Tuesday.
Six of the eight Cub runners earned medals. Three set personal records.
“This is a great meet for kids who have missed a meet and for our middle school kids,” head coach Eric Carlson said.
All three high-schoolers earned medals in their respective junior varsity races.
Brigg Shannon took second in a 2-mile run, finishing in 13 minutes, 59 seconds.
On the JV girls’ side, Taylor Korte took fifth at 17:34, and Brooke Yokum 12th at 21:42. Both also earned medals.
Among middle school girls, Tori Melendez took fifth a 15:21, followed by Jo Ellison in 14th at 17:17. Both earned medals. Ellison’s time topped her previous best by more than 2 minutes.
Thatcher Mueller medaled in the middle school boys race, taking 14th at 15:16 — a personal record by more than a minute. Layne Ellison took 23rd at 17:17, and Jack Works finished 28th at 18:18. Works’ run was more than 4 minutes quicker than his previous best, Carlson said. Middle-schoolers also ran 2-mile races.
