Humboldt High’s boys cooked up another lopsided win Friday.

With junior Colden Cook’s monster performance, the Cubs took control early and never looked back in a 53-26 win over St. Paul.

The victory in the fifth-place game of Iola’s War on 54 Tournament, puts the Cubs at 9-2 at the unofficial halfway point of the 2023-24 season.

Cook was dominant early against the Indians. He scored 12 of the Cubs’ first 14 points, and was sitting at 16 points by halftime.

Humboldt led 14-6 after one quarter, before turning on the jets to lead 37-10 by the break.

With the game well in hand, Cook went to the bench for good in the second half with 20 points, seven rebounds, five steals and three assists. He hit 7 of 8 field goals.

Sam Hull added 12 points, six boards and three steals. Avery Works added five rebounds. Blake Ellis had four steals and three assists. Logan Page scored eight and Asher Hart scored six.

Zakary Kirkpatrick scored 10 for St. Paul.

Humboldt resumes regular season play Friday at Erie. Another road game follows next Tuesday at Eureka before the Cubs return home Feb. 2 against Caney Valley, their first home game since mid-December.
