NEODESHA — Humboldt Middle School’s track and field athletes weren’t about to let a little wind slow down their medal pursuit Monday.
Despite a ferocious west wind through much of the competition, the Cub athletes racked up several top finishes at the Neodesha Invitational.
Highlighting Humboldt’s day was the seventh-grade boys, who won their first meet of the season. Both Teryn Johnson and David Watts finished in the top four of all four of their events to lead the way.
“We only have eight boys on the seventh-grade team,” track coach Scott Brady noted. “To win that big of a meet with that few kids is a special accomplishment.”
Meanwhile, Aricah McCall and Kaylie Johnson all finished in the top four in three of their four events to lead the seventh-grade girls to a third-place team finish. Morgan Mauk did them one better, finishing in the top four in all four of her events.
For the eighth-graders, Britnee Works, Sierra Brinkerhoff, Kaiti Carpenter and Lizzie Myers all took home points to lead the girls to third as a team.
For the eighth-grade boys, Jacob Barker placed in all four of his events. Noah Johnson placed in three of his four to lead the way. The squad also took third of the nine teams in attendance.
