Humboldt Middle earns wins

EUREKA — Humboldt Middle School’s girls basketball A-Team rebounded from a loss to Caney Valley last Thursday with a 37-13 win against Eureka on Monday night.
“The girls were excellent on the defensive side of the ball tonight,” coach Scott Brady said. “We forced 30 turnovers on steals alone.”
Aricah McCall led the way with 15 points and 11 steals for a double-double. Maggie Johnson wasn’t far behind, scoring 12 points, forcing six steals and grabbing five rebounds. Madison Gean scored four points and corralled 10 boards. Winter Lohmann scored two points, grabbed nine rebounds and forced seven steals. Kaylie Johnson and Tori White each scored two points.
“Aricah played a phenomenal game tonight,” Brady said. “She was everywhere on defense and really pushed the tempo of the game for us in the second half.”
The B-Team also nabbed a win, beating Eureka 32-23.
Morgan Mauk led the team with 11 points, grabbed six rebounds and had five steals. Ashlynn Booth scored six points and dished out four assists. Alayna Johnson added five points and eight rebounds. Jayden Jackson scored four points and grabbed nine rebounds. Syndey Baker made a free throw and finished with six rebounds. Sadie Houk scored two points.
“They did a much better job of taking care of the ball and rebounding in the second half,” Brady said.

THE EIGHTH GRADE boys secured a 38-31 win against Eureka.
“We were great for the first three quarters and good enough to win in the fourth,” coach Jeremy Weilert said.
Tucker Hurst led the team with 16 points and eight rebounds. Bo Bigelow finished with eight points and four rebounds. Logan Grey added six points and two boards. Teryn Johnson scored six points, grabbed five rebounds and dished out four assists. Dylan Doolittle scored a basket and had three rebounds.
“Hurst once again played great,” Weilert said. “He was virtually unstoppable on the low block. We were very unselfish which led to some easy baskets.”
The boys are now 8-3, after losing to Caney Valley 43-38 last week.
The seventh-graders fell to Eureka 38-35.
The team was down 12 points after the first quarter, but pulled back to within five points to start the fourth quarter.
“We missed a 3 pointer to tie the game with 0.6 seconds on the clock,” Weilert said. “I am proud of how hard the boys played in the second half.”
Conor Haviland led the team with 12 points and seven rebounds. Cooper Jaro and Gunner Elder each finished with six points. Josh Hull scored five points and had three rebounds. Jackson Aikins scored four points and grabbed five rebounds. Logan Dillow scored a basket and Reid Smith grabbed two rebounds.
The team is now 3-8.
In the two-quarter C-Team game, Joe Murrow led the Cubs with four points. Calvin Schoendaller and Caleb Klauman each added two points.
The boys and girls teams host Fredonia on Thursday.
