Humboldt JV blasts Jayhawks

Humboldt's junior varsity football team finished off a 6-0 season with a 42-12 rout of Jayhawk-Linn Monday. The Cubs once again utilized a teamwork approach for success.

MOUND CITY — Humboldt High’s junior varsity football team capped a perfect 2021 campaign Monday.

The Cubs blasted Jayhawk-Linn, 42-12, to wind up the year at 6-0.

“The great thing about this team is the number of players that contribute,” head coach Jeremy Weilert said. “We had 13 different players make a solo tackle.”

Sam Hull rushed for 83 yards and two touchdowns, covering 5 and 3 yards. Blake Ellis rushed for 74 yards, including a 68-yard touchdown run. Chase DeMeritt counted a 9-yard touchdown run among his 20 yards on the ground.

Hull completed 4 of 7 passes for 114 yards and two touchdowns. Colden Cook had three catches covering 60 yards and a touchdown. Jacob Harrington’s only catch was a 54-yard touchdown.

Kyler Isbell led the defense with seven tackles, followed by Mateo Miller with five. Cody White, Tristan Ballin and DeMeritt each ahd three stops. White also had a sack. Carson Bremerman added a pair of tackles. Ellis, Logan Page, Mathews, Quenton Heisler, Cook, Asher Hart  and Harrington had tackles as well. Heisler and Cook also recovered Jayhawk fumbles.
