HUMBOLDT — A last-minute schedule change didn’t deter Humboldt High’s junior varsity football team Monday.
The Cubs had been slated to play Eureka, but the Tornadoes had to cancel its visit, prompting Humboldt to find another opponent in Santa Fe Trail.
Humboldt raced to a 22-0 lead after one quarter and never looked back in a 42-6 victory.
Sam Hull led the way with 115 yards rushing and two touchdowns on 10 carries. He also completed three passes for 42 yards, all of which went to Logan Page.
Cole Mathes added 92 yards rushing with two touchdowns. Chase DeMeritt rushed seven times for 85 yards. Blake Ellis added 42 yards on six carries and a score.
Defensively, high-tackle honors were shared by Kyler Isbell and Mathes with seven apiece. Tristan Ballin had six and DeMeritt added five.
Ellis and Conner Sallee both had interceptions.
