GALESBURG — The Humboldt Middle School varsity girls lost 27-24 in Galesburg on Thursday, but the game wasn’t without positives for Cubs’ coach Scott Brady.
“This was without question the best we have played this year,” Brady said. “Galesburg is undefeated and beat us by 25 points at the start of the year. We were in this game the entire 24 minutes and they just made a couple shots at the end and we missed ours.”
Maycie DeNoon led the Cubs with 11 points and eight rebounds. Kady Hart added six points and seven rebounds.
“If moral victories exist this was definitely one for us,” Brady said. “Obviously it would have been a huge win for us, but I told the girls after that if they can continue to play together like they did tonight we will have a successful second half to our season.”
Humboldt is now 3-5.
JUNIOR VARSITY
The junior varsity beat Galesburg in overtime, 21-17.
“These girls slept through the first three quarters are were down 11-5 entering the fourth,” Brady said. “Thankfully, they played a great fourth quarter and overtime to keep a very successful season going.”
Zoey Wilson led the Cubs with 13 points.
“Zoey was the key,” Brady said. “She was very aggressive and got us back in the game.”
The junior varsity team is now 7-1.
