Iola American Legion Post 15’s A Indians lost two games to visiting Humboldt’s Babe Ruth baseball team Wednesday at Riverside Park.
After Derrick Weir hit a two-run home run in the second to put the Indians up 3-1, Humboldt piled on four runs in the third and two more in the fourth for a 7-4 lead. Humboldt went on to win 9-8.
Aaron Barclay started for Iola, going 2 1/3 innings and giving up five runs on two hits and five walks and had four strikeouts. Bryce Misenhelter pitched three 3 2/3 innings, allowing four runs on five hits and three walks with one strikeout. Thealvin Minor pitched one inning, walked two and struck out three.
Drew Faulhaber hit two doubles and Garrett Catron hit a single and a double. Misenhelter had two singles. Weir had the home run. Barclay and Shae Beasley each hit a single.
Iola wiped out a 3-0 Humboldt lead by scoring five runs on four hits in the second inning. But that was all the offense Iola could muster.
Humboldt plated four runs in the fourth on its way to a 7-5 victory. Iola did not have any hits other than the four in the second inning.
Tyler Clubine took the loss, going three innings. He gave up six runs on five hits and five walks. He struck out three.
Trent Latta pitched two innings. He allowed one run on two hits and struck out two.
Weir doubled. Clubine, Austin Snyder and Alex Bauer each had a single.
Iola is 7-5 on the season.
