Thursdays Tri Valley League meet was a record day for Humboldt cross country. The boys earned their first league championship in four years, and the Lady Cubs claimed their first-ever league title.
Drew Wilhite finished first with a time of 17:41, a personal best that was just 12 seconds off the Humboldt all-meet school record. Senior Luke Yokum also recorded a personal best, finishing third and posting a time of 18:32.
Also competing for the Cubs and setting personal bests were Javyn Hess, ninth (19:22), Sam Neely, 22nd (20:34), Peyton Wallace, 35th (22:48), and Cooper Woods, 38th (23:27). Thane Meadows finished 27th with a time of 21:38. Earning all-league honors for their performances were Wilhite, Yokum, and Hess.
For the Lady Cubs, Lulu Melendez followed up her record performance last week with a new personal best. Melendez placed second with a time of 22:19 to lead all Lady Cubs runners. Melina Hess came in fifth (24:35), Leah Mueller, sixth (24:38), Zoey Wilson, seventh (25:07), Taylor Korte, 14th (26:39), Bri Baker ,16th (27:09), Peyten Galloway, 19th (28:10), and Winter Snyder, 26th (31:42). Four Lady Cub runners earning all-league honors were Melendez, Hess, Mueller and Wilson.
The regional meet is Oct. 26 in Garnett.
