Last Thursday, inclement weather canceled a cross country meet for area high schools at Central Heights.

Iola ditched Monday’s rescheduled meet to race in Eureka today and Independence on Thursday.

Humboldt on the other hand, traveled to Central Heights Monday, and will compete in Osage City on Thursday.

Two Lady Cubs and two Cub runners set personal record times at Central Heights.

In the middle school seventh-grade division, Humboldt’s McKenna Jones placed fifth with a time  of 15:45 and Anna Heisler finished 19th at 18:04 for the two-mile race.

For the seventh-grade boys, Asher Hart finished 20th (16:53) and Jaryt Hess came in 28th (18:45).

Three girls competed in the JV race. Peyton Galloway finished 9th (29:40), Bri Baker 10th (29:52), and Winter Snyder 13th (31:42).

Lulu Melendez led all Lady Cub runners in the varsity race, finishing 11th with a time of 24:02. Melina Hess placed 21st at 26:17. Both Leah Mueller and Taylor Korte set personal records. Mueller finished 22nd (26:27), a personal best by 14 seconds, and Taylor Korte improved by 59 seconds, placing 27th (28:04).

Drew Wilhite led the Cubs, coming in fourth (19:07), and Luke Yokum finished 10th (20:07). Javyn Hess and Sam Neely both had personal records. Hess finished 21st (21:24), and Neely placed 29th (22:17). Thane Meadows placed 36th (22:51), Peyton Wallace, 40th (25:04), and Cooper Woods 43rd (28:44).

This season is going according to plan for head coach Eric Carlson. Carlson’s goal was for all Cub runners to build up their mileage, and see the return in their times. The Lady Cubs are still building toward their goal, but the boys seemed poised to make another run at state.

The Cubs canceled their plans to run today at Eureka, and instead will compete at Osage City this Thursday.
