Humboldt boys XC make state

They may not have been dominant up top, but the Humboldt boys cross country team bunched together in the middle and placed third at the 2A Burlington regional tournament on Saturday, qualifying them as a team for the state meet.

The Cubs scored 114 points, which were five points better than fourth place Whitewater-Remington and two points behind second-place St. Marys Colgan.

Freshman Drew Wilhite led the Cubs with an 11th place finish with a time of 18:26:68.

Luke Yokum finished 26th (20:25.39) with Seth Barlow following right behind in 27th with a time of 20:26:49.

Caleb Coronado finished 31st (20:36.48), Thane Meadows (21:34.83) finished 40th, Cooper Woods placed 57th (23:58.31) and Noah Carson finished 70th (46:06.82).

They will run at the state meet in Wamego on Saturday at 10 a.m.

Also running in that Burlington regional was Yates Center’s Hadley Splechter.

The senior Wildcat and defending 2A State Champion finished first with a time of 16:22.88 which was a full minute and 11 seconds ahead of the second place runner.

He will be looking to defend his state title while also making a run at the 2A state record.
