The Humboldt Cubs will four-seed next week when they travel to Great Bend to compete in the 2-1A State Baseball Championship on Thursday and Friday.
The KSHAA released the brackets for all five state tournaments on Friday and the fourth-seeded 20-3 Cubs are set to face five-seed Olathe-Heritage Christian Academy (13-6) at 1:15 p.m. on Thursday.
A win on Thursday will set the Cubs up against either undefeated one-seed Elkhart or 13-10 eight-seed Wichita Independent at 11 a.m. on Friday.
On the other half of the bracket, two-seed Marion (18-1) will play Prairie Village-Kansas City Christian (14-8) and three-seed Sedgwick (15-2) will play six-seed Rossville (14-8).
The 2-1A champion from last season, Spearville, did not make it out of regionals but Elkhart and Kansas City Christian are making their return to Great Bend.
Humboldt and Marion both made the 3A tournament last year before both schools got reclassified down to 2A earlier last summer.
The Cubs lost a 5-4 nine-inning heartbreaker to Riley County in the opening round of state last season in Manhattan.
