Iola and some of Humboldts younger wrestlers traveled to Fredonia on Saturday.
The Mustangs came away with four top-six finishes while the Cubs struggled against varsity level competition, only getting one placer.
Iola was led by two third-place finishes from 285-pound sophomore Logan Brown and 145-pound freshman Trent Jones. Both scored 20 team points.
Brown started with a bye followed by a 1:44 pin of Winfields Isaiah Anderson-Lolar before falling to Campus Jacob Beehler who pinned Brown in 3:09 in the semifinals.
Brown bounced back with a quick 36-second pin of Humboldts Andrew Watts before Nickersons Matteiu Cedillo forfeited the third-place match.
Meanwhile, Jones began with a 3-2 decision loss to Winfields Parker Smith before reeling off five straight wins starting with two pins of Flinthills Colton Smith (23 seconds) and Shawnee Mission Souths Quinn McCalmon (1:53).
Jones then got a 9-1 major decision win over Campus Corbin Williams before getting a 12-0 revenge win over Parker Smith in the consolation semifinals.
In the third place match, Jones grabbed a 12-2 major decision win over Noah Caven to wrap things up.
170-pound senior Elijah Luedke finished fourth, scoring 16 points.
After starting off with a bye, Luedke got a big 5:32 pin over Parsons Gus Taylor.
That fight and determination continued in the semifinal round but Luedke fell on the other side after getting pinned in 4:55 seconds to Fredonias Buddy Claibourn.
Luedke bounced back with a 1:44 win over Leon-Bluestems Jonathan McAmis before falling to Nickersons Jarin Gomes with a 2:42 pin in the third-place match.
The last placer was 106-pound freshman T.J. Taylor who finished sixth with 11 team points.
Taylor started off with a 27-second pin of Winfields Gunther Flower before falling by 2-1 decision over Southeasts Bryer Glaser.
Taylor came back and got wins over Parsons Chris Smith (59-second pin) and Eries Drayton Kennedy (4-0 decision) before falling in a 1:31 pin to Campus Dylan Sheler in the consolation semifinals.
Taylor forfeited his final match in the fifth-place match versus Perry-Locomptons Dalton Kahle.
