UNIONTOWN — Uniontown High’s Eagle softball team finished the regular season at home Friday.

It was the finish the Eagles wanted.

Chetopa High’s Hornets came to town with just one loss in Three Rivers League play. And that was all the Eagles had also.

On the line was at least a share of the TRL softball title. The Hornets edged the Eagles 1-0 in the opener then won the league championship outright with a 9-5 win in the nightcap.

Chetopa finished 11-1 followed by Jayhawk-Linn at 10-2. Uniontown was third at 9-3.

The Eagles (14-6) have a first-round bye in this week’s Kansas Class 2A Regional Softball Tournament hosted by Yates Center. They play the winner of tonight’s Marmaton Valley-Elk Valley game in the semifinals Tuesday in Yates Center.

Chetopa manufactured the lone run of the first game Friday in the first inning.  It came on two singles and a sacrifice bunt coming from the first three batters of the game.

Taylor Wade took the pitching loss, giving up four hits and walking three. She struck out one.

Wade and Jamie Dawson each had a single for the Eagles in the contest.

There was more hits and more scoring in the second game. Unfortunately for the Eagles, the Hornets got the lead and never gave it up.

It was Chetopa leading 6-4 after three innings. It added three more runs in the fifth and allowed Uniontown a run in the sixth.

Dawson, Mandie Ridge and Hope Jurgensen each connected for two singles for the Eagles. Wade had a base hit.

Ridge was the losing pitcher. She allowed 12 hits, walked six and struck out two.
