CHETOPA — Uniontown High’s softball team lost two close games Monday. The doubleheader finished out Three Rivers League play and the regular season for the Eagles.
Uniontown tied the first game up when Tayler Shook hit a two-run home run in the fourth. Chetopa High’s Hornets produced the winning run in the sixth for the 3-2 victory.
The two teams went four innings without any scoring in the second game. Chetopa manufactured two runs in the fifth and added one in the sixth to win 3-0.
The Eagles ended up 9-3 in TRL play and 13-7 overall. They await seeding and pairings for next week’s Kansas Class 3A regional tournament in Frontenac.
Shook was the losing pitcher in both games. She allowed six hits, three walks and hit a batter in the first game plus struck out three. In the second contest, she gave up five hits, walked one and struck out two.
Besides the Shook home run in the first game, Uniontown got a double from Tiffany Poyner and a single by Taylor Wade.
Britney Stokes hit two singles in the second game for the Eagles. Hitting a single each were Hope Jurgensen, Shook, Mandy Ridge and Torrie Hathaway.
“Chetopa capitalized more when they had base runners than we did,” said Alan Shinn, UHS head coach. “These were two very good ball games by the pitchers for both teams and defensive mistakes were limited.”
