Hornets beat Eagles

UNIONTOWN — Uniontown High’s Eagles did not have the hitting power to derail Chetopa High’s softball team from going undefeated in Three Rivers League play.
In makeup softball games Wednesday, the Eagles lost 4-3 and 5-1 to the Hornets, wrapping up the regular season. Uniontown went 5-3 in league play and 11-5 overall.
In the first game, the Eagles had five hits in a one-run contest. Chetopa led 1-0 then scored three runs in the sixth. The Eagles came up with a run in the sixth but a rally in the bottom of the seventh was shut down after two runs were scored.
Tayler Shook took the loss on the mound for the Eagles. She gave up four hits, walked two and hit one batter. She struck out six.
Audrey Dixon doubled in two runs and had a single. Hitting a single each were Tiffany Poyner, Ithaca Marlier and Candice Clayton.
Chetopa ran its TRL championship record to 10-0 with the second game win. The Hornets got two runs in the first and three in the fourth. Uniontown scored a run in the fourth.
Marlier was charged with her first pitching loss of the season (6-1). She gave up eight hits, hit one batter and struck out one.
Hope Jurgensen had a double for the Eagles. Hitting a single each were Poyner, Cassie Schwalm and Marlier.
