IOLA — The Humboldt Middle C team boys basketball matched up in a tournament at Iola and also took on Neodesha on Saturday and Monday, respectively.

The Cubs lost to Iola’s C team, 24-12, got crushed by Pittsburg’s C team, 26-6, fell to Independence, 25-10 and lost to Neodesha, 31-13.
Humboldt’s C team matchup with Iola was led by Owen Sicka’s four points while four other Cubs scored two points apiece. Humboldt outrebounded Iola, 20-18. Cyler Mason and Bentlee Anderson led with four rebounds apiece while Blayden McGuire grabbed three.
The Cub C team’s loss to Pittsburg was led by Sicka’s three points and Cooper Peters’ two points. Humboldt outrebounded Pittsburg, 26-24, and was led on the boards by Layne Wagner and Peters’ five rebounds apiece.
Humboldt’s C team loss to Independence saw the Cubs finish with five scorers at two points in Luke Coronado, Nathan Seibert, Bryce Culbertson, Broc Ivy and Peters.
Peters led Humboldt on the boards when he snatched a team-high four rebounds, part of Humboldt’s 22 total rebounds as opposed to Independence’s 15 rebounds.
The Cubs lost to Neodesha’s C team by 18 points and turned the ball over 32 times, the main reason for Humboldt’s loss. Humboldt was outrebounded by Neodesha, 24-23.
Humboldt’s B team lost to Neodesha, 32-24.
Connor Newman led the Cubs with 10 points and Weston Johnson led with 11 rebounds. Humboldt was outrebounded by Neodesha, 36-29. The Cubs led 16-11 at halftime before being outscored in the second half, 21-8.
The Humboldt Middle A team slipped to Neodesha, 38-29.
Collin Cook and Kreed Jones led Humboldt offensively with 11 and eight points, respectively. Thatcher Mueller grabbed a team-high five rebounds while Kage Daniels had four boards. The Cubs were outrebounded by the Streaks, 19-18.
Humboldt and Neodesha were knotted up at 10 points at halftime before the Streaks outscored the Cubs in the second half, 26-19.
“We lost to this team by 19 points the first time we played them,” said Humboldt head coach Jeremy Weilert. “We just couldn’t get over the hump. We had a few breakdowns defensively that led to some easy points. I am proud of how hard we played.”
