YATES CENER — Humboldt Middle School’s Cubs played eight-man football Thursday night and won.
The Cubs wrangled with Yates Center Middle School’s Wildcats in their one and only eight-man game of the year. Humboldt won 36-6.
The Cubs’ running-back by committee of Bryce Isaac and Corey Whitcomb both ran in touchdowns and two-point conversions. They scored all of the Cubs’ points.
HMS head coach Matt Kerr said Anthony Doran and Jake Haviland had interceptions for the Humboldt defense. Leading the team in tackles were Rhett Smith, Isaac and Whitcomb.
“However we were not perfect by any means, turning the ball over four times. This has been a problem all year for us and if we want to win any more games we’ll have to fix this,” Kerr said.
The Cubs (1-2) go to Neodesha next Thursday.
