Alex Hill still has more to do for Iola High’s Fillies for the 2010 softball season. But the pitching ace for the Fillies made her decision where to begin her collegiate softball career.
Hill, who signed a letter of intent in December, announced this week she would play at Allen County Community College next year. Hill joins the Red Devils after they completed a successful run in 2010.
“They have a really good team and I believe I fit in well, plus it’s close to home,” Hill said.
Hill, who has earned Southeast Kansas League honors twice and is in line to do so again this season, is Iola’s career leader wins, innings pitched and strikeouts.
She is 14-2 this season with 127 strikeouts and 21 walks.
Hill has an earned run average of 1.02 in 2010 in 94 innings pitched. She went 15-4 with a 1.58 ERA last year as the Fillies won a Kansas Class 4A regional title and made it to the state tournament for the first time.
“She’s had a real good high school career,” said Ed Wilkerson, ACCC head softball coach. “She keeps batters off balance and moves the ball around the strike zone well.
“We’re excited to have her coming to ACCC. She’ll give us depth on the pitching staff.”
The Red Devils went 39-22 this season, the best in 20 years. They finished third in the Jayhawk Eastern Division.
Hill has gone 29-6 in the past two seasons. She has 38 wins in three years and 317 strikeouts. The Fillies head into the Class 4A regional playoffs next week.
Hill plans to major in agriculture business. She is the daughter of Rick and Rhonda Hill of Iola.
