PARSONS — Iola High’s offense didn’t have to score many runs Monday night behind the pitching of Alex Hill. But the Fillies did anyway.
Hill dominated Parsons High’s Lady Vikings in a 13-1 win. She threw a no-hitter, walked two and struck 12 of the 22 batters she faced.
Parsons scored its run on a walk and an error in the sixth inning.
The Fillies led 1-0 until a seven-run explosion in the third. They added five more runs in the sixth.
Leah Weir led the offensive attack, going 3-for-4, with two triples and a single. Amanda Carr and Molly Riebel each had a single and a double.
“Leah had a good game. Her hitting had been really key to several victories this season,” said Vince Coons, Fillies’ head coach. “Our offensive effort was excellent.
“Alex dominated game one.”
Hill had two singles in the game and Lyndsi Faulhaber hit a triple. Hitting a single each were Megan Cook, Brandi Preston, Kylee McKarnin and Shelby Greenwood.
Greenwood went 4-for-4 with four base hits in Iola’s 12-3 win of the second game Monday. Carr and Preston each had an inside-to-park home run plus Carr had a single.
The Fillies steadily built its lead in the second game. It was 10-0 before Parsons scored three runs in the sixth.
Hill pitched three scoreless innings, allowing two hits and one walk with one strikeout. Breail Thompson worked four innings in her first varsity game. She gave up three runs on four hits and one walk with six strikeouts.
McKarnin had two singles and a triple and Cook delivered two triples. Faulhaber had two singles. Riebel tripled and Weir singled.
Iola improved to 8-2 in Southeast Kansas League play and overall.
The Fillies travel to Humboldt Friday for the Lindsey Friederich Memorial Tournament. Yates Center plays Humboldt at noon followed by Iola against Neodesha.
The losers of those games play in the consolation game at 3:15 p.m. Friday. The championship game is set for 5:30 at Manion Field.
