High-schoolers are back in action starting Monday as practices for the fall sports season begin.

Football, volleyball, cross country and girls tennis are in the spotlight in USD 257, and elsewhere across the state.

Most squads will get two full weeks of practice before competitions begin.

Iola High’s tennis team is first on the list, with matches in Chanute the afternoon of Aug. 27. The girls will host their only meet Sept. 2.

The Mustang volleyball team opens play with a tournament at Prairie View Aug. 28, with the junior varsity squad hosting a tournament in Iola the same day.

Iola’s cross country runners will be in Garnett Sept. 2 to open their season.

The Mustang football team has a busy preseason. The Blue-Gold Scrimmage is set for Friday, before the football team travels to Columbus for a preseason jamboree Aug. 27.

The season opener kicks off Sept. 3 at home against Osawatomie.
