Fans of Crest Lancer basketball won’t have to go far to watch one of their best get a chance to compete at the next level.

Crest senior forward Hayden Hermreck committed to walk-on to the Allen Community College men’s basketball team last week after a long-standing familiarity between the team and the former Lancer star.

“Hayden and his family have been coming to games for a long time now and I’ve enjoyed getting to know them,” ACC head coach Andy Shaw said. “He’s a great kid and a hard worker. I know that he was the best player on his team. He came down and worked out with us a few weeks ago and you can just tell he wants to get better.”

Hermreck averaged 18.7 points, 7.3 rebounds and 1.9 assists and steals per game during his senior season. The Lancers went 8-13 including a loss to Southern Coffey County in regionals to end their season.

Allen ended its year at 16-15 and loses six impactful sophomores from the 2018-19 team.

Shaw said he and Hermreck have talked about redshirting Hermreck for the 2019-20 season but nothing has been decided.

Incoming sophomore Malik Hardmon stands as the only returning Red Devil averaging 10 or more points per game. There is a lot of scoring up for grabs for next season.

Regardless of whether Hermreck plays next season, Shaw sees him as a good fit for his program and for the Allen community.

“He’s the type of kid that you want in your program,” Shaw said. “He’s local, he’s had success at his high school and we’re looking forward to having him be around us. He’s going to be good for us in all different facets. You can tell he’s a good student and a hard worker off the court. He checks all of those boxes of players that we’re looking for.”
