Jake Haviland was Humboldt’s unquestioned leader all season whether he was on the mound or in the batter’s box.
Haviland served as the Cubs’ ace starting pitcher and propelled the Cubs to an undefeated regular season and now opposing coaches are rewarding him by naming him second-team All-State and first-team All-Tri-Valley.
The senior finished the season with a 6-1 record and a 1.61 ERA. He had a 54-9 strikeout-to-walk ratio.
Haviland was also a star for the Cubs at the plate with a .458 battling average and 29 RBIs.
A late-season power surge gave Haviland three home runs on the season, the first home runs of his career.
Rhett Smith and Corey Whitcomb were also named to the first-team All-League as seniors.
Smith had a .339 average and Whitcomb provided the team with great leadoff production with a .356 average and 31 stolen bases.
Senior Tyler Korte earned an honorable mention nod with his .453 average.
