Allen’s Red Devils could not get out of the top of the fourth inning Wednesday. They were just trailing 3-0 and still in the game.

At the end of that half-inning, Allen Community College’s baseball team trailed visiting Butler Community College’s Grizzlies 14-0. The Grizzlies scored 11 runs in the frame, and eight more after that in a 22-4 romp.

The Grizzlies tagged the three ACC pitchers used in the inning for six hits and three walks. Allen’s defense committed four errors as well.

Allen’s offense showed a little life in its half of the fourth.

Cody Amerine was hit by a pitch to start the frame. Drake Koerner followed with a single. With one out a wild pitch allowed Amerine to score.

Sky Bushyhead was hit by a pitch then Tim Lewis doubled in a run. Jaren Moorman and Travis Stafford each had an RBI single.

It was 14-4. Butler scored single runs in the fifth and sixth innings then splurged again for six runs in the seventh. After retiring the Red Devils in the seventh, the nine-inning game was called on run-rule.

Allen used eight pitchers in the game. Joe Saia was the starter followed by Dalton Dreifurst, Gage Dickerson, Tevin Kendall, Layton Gray, Lucas Westervelt, Steven Hilgendorf and Tanner Lee. They gave up 17 hits and nine walks in the game. Lee recorded two strikeouts.

Lewis hit two doubles and Moorman had two singles. Tyler Cantrell doubled. Hitting a single each were Stafford, Trevor Smith, Koerner and Garrett Hess.

Allen is 12-16 overall.

The Red Devils host Coffeyville Saturday and Sunday for a four-game Jayhawk Eastern Division series. Both doubleheaders begin at 1 p.m.
