The seemingly never-ending winter has come between Allen County race fans and the annual kickoff of Humboldt Speedway’s 2019 season.

The fifth-annual Battle at the Bullring has been postponed from this weekend to March due to the weather.

The event will now be the weekend of March 21-23 to run in conjunction with the ninth-annual King of America Modified Nationals event.

“The bad news is that there are a lot of fans and racers who have already made plans to be here next weekend, but everybody would be miserable with the cold weather,” Humboldt Speedway promoter Ryan Whitworth said on USMTS’s official website Tuesday.

“The good news is the show will probably be one of the biggest dirt track racing events of the year with the combining of two huge events into one.”

Aside from the date, there aren’t expected to be a lot of changes. USMTS competitors will be racing for a top prize of $10,000 while the B-Mods will square-off for $8,500.

Drivers in both classes will race in two heats on Thursday and two more on Friday from four different starting positions with 10 to 14 cars in each. Each driver’s best three efforts will count toward Saturday’s feature lineups with any tie-breakers, if needed, being determined by a fourth heat race.

The top 12 from the first two nights will be locked into Saturday’s finale with the remainder of the field coming from Saturday’s “B” Mains.

The Speedway plans to hold open practices from 6 to 9 p.m. on March 9 and 16 to prepare for the big weekend.
