Freshman Fillies go 2-0 to kick off tournament

FORT SCOTT —  The Iola Fillies’ freshman team began their Fort Scott Tournament on Monday with games against Chanute and Frontenac.
The Fillies began the tournament with a 29-15 win over Frontenac.
Kelsey Morrison led the Fillies with 10 points while Gabby Richards had a big game with nine points to complement Morrison’s exploits.
Nissa Fountain had four points and Sadrie Overall, Gabby Lampe and MJ Neises each had two points to round out the scoring.
The Fillies had a tougher challenge in their second game, but prevailed over Chanute 21-17.
Iola showed off its depth with scoring by two players who were scoreless in the day’s opener.
Ella Taylor had six points and Elysia Kunkler scored five.
Morrison and Lampe each added four points and Richards chipped in two.
Both Fort Scott and Iola finished the day 2-0 in the round-robin tournament and the Fillies will have the opportunity to win the tournament on Monday, Jan. 23, when they head back to Fort Scott to face off with the Tigers for the outright title.
