MELVERN — Ashton Isch hit 111 free throws in a row at a Southern Coffey County High girls’ practice in January. Everyone knows the 5-6 senior guard can shoot free throws.

Ashton Isch sank 17 of 20 free throw attempts Tuesday night on her way to a career-high 25 points and leading the Lady Titans to a 60-50 win over host Marais Des Cygnes Valley High’s Trojans. The Lady Titans cashed in on 27 of 34 charity tosses overall in the contest.

“It was a hard fought game. The girls did a great job of knocking down their free throws in the fourth quarter, 15 of 17,” said Jeff True, Lady Titan head coach. “We still need to get better shooting from the perimeter.”

The Lady Titans had the upper hand, 14-7, in the first quarter. It turned around in the second period as the Trojan girls had a 14-8 edge.

Southern Coffey County was able to outscore Marais Des Cygnes Valley 18-16 in the third to stay ahead. With free throws powering them, the Lady Titans outscored the Trojans 20-13 in the final eight minutes for the win.

The victory was SCC’s first in Lyon County League play against two losses. The Lady Titans (2-2) go to Waverly Friday.

Breanna Isch and Sarah Webb controlled things inside for the Lady Titans. The two each recorded double-doubles.

Breanna Isch had 13 points and 12 rebounds. Webb tossed in 11 points and cleared 10 rebounds. Katelyn Rogers dished out five assists.

“It was nice to have more balanced scoring tonight,” True said.

Alexa Dorcas paced the Trojans with 19 points. Taylor Schimmel added 12 points. The Trojans went 6 of 11 at the free-throw line.

Southern Coffey County’s junior varsity lost 18-17 in overtime.
